What is Genie Stream™ Client (Player) - "GS" Client?

In order to successfully use and test Genie Stream™ Client, you should connect to the " Genie Stream™ Server (Service Provider)

"GS" Client establishes a connection to the Genie Stream™ Server and, according to the Genie Stream™ Service Provider settings specific to a particular user or group of users, receives the transmitted information from the Genie Stream™ Service Provider.

In terms of an analogy with a broadcasting station and a radio, the "GS" Client is a radio. It is a program installed on the user's computer by a system administrator or the user him/herself.
The "GS" Client is a freely distributed program but has no practical usage except to connect with the "GS" Server or to play back the archived information received from one of the sessions with the "GS" Server.

"GS" Client Features.

Automatically checks the compatibility of its version with the "GS" Server version. In case of an incompatibility, it recommends the user update the old version according to the rules set by the "GS" Service Provider.
Connects to any of the available "GS" Server channels, according to the "GS" Client user settings.
Checks "User ID" and "Password" against the "GS" Server information and according to the rules set by the "GS" Service Provider.
Checks credit information of a particular user in case of a commercial service; informs the user about the available credit, cost of the service and the payment method; prompts the user to accept the conditions of a fee-paying connection or to decline and disconnect.
Asks for user age confirmation, when the service provided is age-limited, e.g., adult service. The age limit for the connections can be set by the "GS" Service Provider.
Where list of streaming information are available, allows access to and selection from the content menu, which contains such lists.
Allows a recording service for further playing and archiving, where the rules set by the "GS" Service Provider permit such recording.
When the "GS" Server setup includes an Auto Pop-Up web page address, it connects to the web address of the Auto Pop-Up page and displays it in the user's web browser.
Upon connection with the "GS" Server and service access, displays statistical information, which, depending on the user and type of service, might include the following:
  • User available credit and the amount spent from the start of the service (if it is a fee-paying service).
  • Type of service - free or not; audio live or pre-recorded information.
  • Service and topic title when the information is pre-recorded.
  • Amount of information (in bytes) received during the session.
  • Time left till the end of the session (in case the session is time-limited).
  • The percentage of information already downloaded (out of the whole volume).
  • Remaining free space on a recording disk (when recording is permitted).
  • Status of a buffer.
  • Playback device status.
  • Status of a computer network providing connection with the "GS" Server.
After disconnecting from the "GS" Server, "GS" Client creates a log file where it records the session's data, including possible reasons for disconnection, e.g., time-limited session, lack of credit for a fee-paying service, user-interrupted session, unexpected interruption due to an error, etc. The log file will also contain an information number for the "GS" Client connection session, which the client can use to find out about any technical problems that may have occurred during a particular session. All "GS" log files can be viewed through a built-in Logs Viewer.
The "GS" Client supports a Resume Mode: if the connection to the server is interrupted (by a user or unexpectedly), the "GS" Client will check whether server streaming is available from the point of interruption and will resume accordingly, when possible.
