Can you give me an example where I can use "AUDIO REDIRECTION" mode of the "GS" Server?
For example you are providing telephony services
using desktop telephony devices or enterprise level telephony boards. Very often,
these devices contain a powerful audio mixer module that works as a
DSP for voice processing (Dialogic, Brooktrout, PhoneRider, Hi-Phone and other).
A common
problem for these types of boards is that they do not have their own audio line input or
output outlets.
When your services require a source of an audio signal (tape, radio or any other dedicated audio source) to be connected to the telephony boards, it becomes a real problem.
The "GS" Server through its convenient software redirection
method-"AUDIO REDIRECTION" mode, can help you
solve problems
when you need to redirect an audio signal from the "line audio input",
"microphone audio input", "AUX", etc. (from the
normal, conventional computer sound card) to the audio device of your telephony
board.
You can use "AUDIO REDIRECTION" mode in reverse, when you
need to capture an audio signal from the telephony board and process it for recording
or broadcasting via the computer network.
I have downloaded the "GS" Server. How can I check now if "AUDIO REDIRECTION" mode is working?
Note: you can activate and test "AUDIO
REDIRECTION" mode only if your computer system has two audio cards or other
valid audio device(s) installed onto your system! If you do have the proper
hardware installed, open the "GS" Server setup and:
1) In "STEP 1 : Server Stream Mode" under "Main -> Server" section,
select "AUDIO REDIRECTION" mode.
2) Under the "Audio Hardware Settings", select "Recording - Input Source Device".
3) Using
from the setup itself or the
"GS" Server main
screen, open "Recording Control"
of your audio device and select
"Input Source"
from the available for your sound card / audio device input sources, for which
"live streaming" will occur.
It can be one of the usual input sources like a Microphone, Line Input, AUX, Sum, TV Tuner or any other
input sources available for
your audio hardware. Make sure you have an actual signal coming into the selected "Input
Source".
4) Select "Output Playback Sound Device" as a target device for your audio redirection
(must
be different from the source device).
5) Close setup and start the "GS" Server.
I have downloaded the "GS" Server. How can I test "STREAM - AUDIO LIVE" mode?
In order to test "STREAM - AUDIO LIVE"
mode first decide which option is appropriate for you.
Option 1: To test locally, using only one computer (must have two valid audio cards/devices installed
onto your system), download and install the "GS" Client
onto the same computer where your "GS" Server is
installed.
Option 2: To test remotely, using two or more computers (must have access to the Intranet/Internet
and proper TCP/IP network configuration), download and install the "GS" Client onto the same
computer where your "GS" Server is installed and onto any of the remote computer(s) which
participate(s) in the "GS" Server remote test. Please note: the current version of the "GS"
Client does not support proxy, so you must have a direct access to your
LAN/WAN.
Second open the "GS" Server setup and:
("GS" Server Part)
1) In "STEP 1 : Server Stream Mode" under "Main -> Server" section,
select- "STREAM - AUDIO LIVE" mode.
2) Under "STEP 2 : Servers Users Control Mode", select
"Easy User (EU)" mode.
The "Easy User" option is recommended at this time because
you are just conducting a test. When you become more familiar with the
"GS" Server, you can experiment with different "GS" Server options and users control modes.
3) Under "STEP 3 : Active Server Channel", select
"General".
4) Under "STEP 4 : Network Type" for the local test
(Option 1), select "LAN, Fast(100M)".
For the
remote test (Option 2), select "LAN, Fast(100M)" for Intranet or
"WAN, Internet, Slow" for Internet.
5)Under the "Audio Hardware Settings", select
"Recording - Input Sound Device".
6) Using
from the setup itself or the main
screen, open "Recording Control"
of your audio device and select
"Input Source"
from the available list for your sound card / audio device input sources, for which
"live streaming will occur.
It can be one of the usual input sources like a Microphone, Line Input AUX, Sum, TV Tuner or any other
available input sources for
your audio hardware. Make sure you have an actual signal
coming into the selected "Input
Source".
7) Close setup and start the "GS" Server.
("GS" Client Part)
8) Open the "GS" Client setup and
under "STEP 1 : Playback Device", select the
playback device through which you want to play the audio streaming received from the "GS"
Server. Please note: If you are testing the "GS" server
locally, the selected Playback device must be different from the "Recording - Input Sound Device" selected
under (5) during the "GS" Server Setup.
9) Set "Service provider IP address / Domain Name" of the "GS" Server you
want to connect to, under
the "STEP 3 : Service / Host Name".
Please note: if testing locally (Option 1) you can set IP address as a "localhost".
If testing
remotely on the Intranet, you can specify the computer's name as a "Host Name", or
use usual, IP address of the "GS" Server.
10) Under the "STEP 3 : Service channel",
select the same service channel as you have selected under
(3) during the "GS" Server setup.
11) Close setup and press the play / connection button to connect your "GS" Client to the previously activated
"GS" Server.
You have two options to create a "GSF" file.
Use this option when you need to create audio files for often changing content services -
stock exchange information, financial reports, information about hotel room vacancies
and the description of such rooms, description of newly stocked goods in a
store etc.
To create a "GS" audio file using option 1 you
must:
1) In "STEP 1 (Server Stream Mode)" under "Main -> Server" section of the "GS" Server
setup, select the "RECORDING - AUDIO FILE" mode.
2) Under the "Audio Hardware Settings", select "Recording - Input Source Device"
.
3) Using
from the setup itself or the "GS"
Stream main
screen, open "Recording Control"
of your audio device and select
"Input Source"
from the available for your sound card/audio device-input sources, for which
"live streaming will occur.
It can be one of the usual input sources like Microphone, Line Input, AUX, Sum, TV Tuner or any other available for
your audio hardware. Please be sure that you have
an actual signal
coming into the selected "Input
Source".
4) Close setup, start the "GS" Server using the
button and set a name for the new recording file.
5) Press
to commence recording.
Use this option when you need to convert plain text files or "wave" audio files created using third party audio
editors. This option is more appropriate when you need to have
well edited audio tracks for
subsequent streaming using the "GS" Server; for example for services like medical consultation and advice, lectures to students, audio books and lessons, advertising for CD releases etc.
For information about how to create a "GSF" file, please refer to the "Audio Converter" online
manual.
